The other day I had a revelation that had never occurred to me before. All my life I thought Satan wanted people to go to Hell for two main reasons:
- Misery loves company. Satan knows God reigns over all and Hell was created for him, therefore he wants as many people there with him.
- Satan has come to kill, steal, and destroy your life. His favorite pastime is confusing, hurting, and bringing pain to humans. Therefore, convincing people to run from God’s love and fall into sin would bring him the ultimate happiness because evilness finds joy in other people’s pain.
While I still believe these things to be true, I believe there is another main reason why Satan wants people in Hell:
He wants to hurt God.
The worst kind of torture in this life is seeing someone you love hurt. It is more painful than if someone were to hurt you. If you were to ask any parent what the greatest hurt in this world is to them they would tell you it’s when they see their child hurting.
The same holds true with God to an even greater extent. God’s love for you is far greater than you or I could ever imagine.
First you must understand that Hell is not a place where you have a party with all of the people who consider themselves to be “bad.” Hell is a place that you would not want to be for one minute, much less eternity. We know this because Hell is everything God isn’t.
Hell is the absence of God. If that doesn’t bother you it’s because you don’t know the truth about God. God is the definition of love, peace, joy, kindness, goodness, mercy, justice, hope, wisdom, power, and graciousness. Because God is not there, Hell is a place full of hate, war, despair, ruthlessness, evilness, manipulation, deceit, injustice, and greed.
{Satan doesn’t care about you. To Satan your suffering is only a bonus. He cares about hurting God and he knows that by keeping you from Him in a place of eternal pain, He has caused God unthinkable pain and grieving because YOU are what God loves most.}
Sure, Satan could try to hurt God by attacking Him directly but he doesn’t for two reasons. Satan knows he would be no match for God. Furthermore, he knows it wouldn’t cut God in the deepest way possible.
What hurts God the most is when you hurt. What makes God the happiest is when you surrender your life to Him and trust in His plan.
God has given us free will because of His love for us. After all, commanding or controlling someone’s life is no way to show them love or respect. Because of this free will, however, you can choose to reject His gift.
His gift to us is His perfect son, Jesus, who came and died on a cross for all humanity after living a sinless life. By accepting Jesus, we are covered by God’s grace and God looks upon us as though we have not sinned. This paved the way for us to be with God forever. Because of God’s goodness, he cannot live with sin. It is the opposite of everything He is.
But without you choosing to accept His gift Satan wins, you lose, and God is caused greater pain than you can fathom because His love for you is greater than you can fathom.
My prayer is that if you have not accepted God’s love and gift of His son you would. If you have already received God’s gift, what are you waiting for? Spread the word!
