Do you ever just feel like you’ve done all you can? You’ve prayed to God, you’ve sought after Him, you’ve believed and not doubted and yet the answer doesn’t come.
You get to this point in life when you know God cares, you know He sees you but you’ve come to the conclusion that He’s not doing anything about it for one reason or another and you become stagnant or apathetic.
You believe in God too much to accept that He doesn’t care about you, yet you don’t believe in God enough to believe He’s actually working behind the scenes. You’re too afraid to abandon God because you know he’s the only one that can get you through and yet you’re too afraid to fully trust God because you doubt if he will actually come through.
I know exactly what this feels like. You’re caught in the middle and if that isn’t enough Satan starts making you feel guilty for doubting.
I don’t have the answer to this, but thankfully God gave us some scripture to combat these feelings.
2 Timothy 2:11-14 is a passage that I don’t think many are familiar with but I think everyone should memorize.
“If we died with him, we will also live with him.
If we endure, we will also reign with him.
If we disown him, he will also disown us.
If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.”
This verse is a promise to anyone who has ever doubted God or not understood His plan (i.e. everyone) that God doesn’t need our faith. Yes, faith can move mountains and the Bible talks left and right about the power of faith. But more than anything I find it comforting that God’s faithfulness isn’t contingent upon my faith.
Paul writes about this in Romans 3:3 as well when he says “What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all!”
It’s comforting to know that even when my faith fails, His faithfulness endures.
My God does not depend on me. Rather, I depend on Him.
His faithfulness is as promising as the sunrise and the sunset. Psalm 113:3.
What’s better is God’s faithfulness builds my faith. So not only is He faithful despite my doubt, but in His faithfulness He proves himself to me time and time again.
“I can’t remember a trial or a pain He did not recycle to bring me gain.
I can’t remember one single regret in serving God only and trusting His hand.
All I have need of, His hand will provide.
He’s always been faithful to me.” –Sara Groves
